Siliguri, 24th September: Four people, including a police constable of the Pradhan Nagar police station, lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Cooch Behar. Several more have been injured in the incident.
Reportedly, the tea was investigating on a missing complaint that had been lodged at the Pradhan Nagar police station, a few days ago. During the inquiry, they gained information regarding the whereabouts of the missing person.
Following this, the SI of Pradhan Nagar police station Biswajit Das, constable Gobinda Sen, lady constable Chandana Pal, the missing girl’s mother and relative Pradip Debnath headed towards Cooch Behar on Wednesday. The minor girl was rescued that very day from Cooch Behar and a youth, identified as Kailash Das, was arrested on the charge of abducting her.
The entire team was apparently returning to Siliguri when the police vehicle lost control near Cooch Behar’s Ghoksadanga area and overturned into a drain.
The Pradhan Nagar police constable Gobinda Sen, the rescued minor Jyotsna Kar, her mother Shipra Kar, and relative Pradip Debnath lost their lives in the accident. On the other hand, SI Biswajit Das, lady constable Chandana Pal and accused Kailash Das are undergoing treatment. Allegedly, the driver of the vehicle has been absconding since the incident.
