Siliguri, 31st December: After Kolkata, a notification has been issued banning all hookah bars in Siliguri. The Siliguri Metropolitan Police allocated notices in all pubs and bars regarding the same and has clearly penned that strict action will be taken against those who ignore the notice.
The move comes after Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor Firhad Hakim shut down all hookah bars in Kolkata after allegations were received that some of these establishments were being used for dealing drugs. Following this, demand for prohibiting hookah bars was also raised in Siliguri. Mayor Goutam Deb of Siliguri Municipal Corporation also backed the demand, following which the said directive was issued.
With the new years celebration starting from today evening, all pubs and bars of the city will be thronged with people. Keeping this in mind, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police imposed a ban on hookahs in pubs and bars. Along with this, the owners and management of pubs and bars have also been instructed to strictly follow this guide.
Speaking in this regard, Siliguri Police Commissioner Akhilesh Chaturvedi said that the order to ban the use of hookah in pubs and bars has been implemented ahead of new year celebrations keeping the safety of the citizens in mind.
