West Bengal Chief Minister held a press conference on Wednesday regarding the COVID-19. Following are some of the most important points that have been raised by the CM:
1. There are three types of Kits, Rapid testing Kits, BGI RT PCR Kits, and Antigen Kits
2. BGI’s Real-Time Fluorescent RT-PCR Kits have been withdrawn as per the email from NICED received yesterday. (21/04/’20)
3. Antigen Kits are not available in any Hospitals of Bengal. WB government does not even have 1 kit currently in stock which can test a COVID patient as per ICMR recommendations
4. All rapid testing kits which were sent to the state, have been withdrawn
5. West Bengal Health Department had made orders previously, but has no knowledge of when will they receive them
6. There is a medium needed to transport the samples of testing. The supplier is ICMR and NICED, and the state does not have enough mediums
7. Two swab Kits are needed for all patients. Viral Transport Kit provided by the Central government is 2500 whereas the state has conducted 7037 tests. The required Kits were 14,000.
8. The centre has given 7,000 PPE kits, while the State government has distributed 4,19,000 kits
