Siliguri, 29th May: A sudden surge in voltage during transformer replacement work in Siliguri’s Bhajan Ghosh More area resulted in the damage of electronic equipment in several households.
Reports indicate that on Thursday, workers were replacing an electricity transformer in Ward No. 22’s Bhajan Ghosh More area when the voltage unexpectedly spiked, leading to the destruction of numerous household items, including TVs, fridges, fans, and lights. The incident has caused distress among local residents.
Residents have expressed frustration, alleging negligence on the part of electricity department employees. They stated that the transformer was being worked on while the electricity line was still live, causing a sudden increase in voltage that damaged the electrical appliances.
Following the incident, angry residents blocked the road and staged protests, demanding accountability from the electricity department. Upon receiving news of the situation, the area councillor rushed to the scene and assured the residents that action would be taken. He also announced that a committee would be formed to assess the damage to each affected house.
The councillor stated that the power distribution company would be contacted to ensure proper compensation for the losses.
