Heroin worth crores seized in Siliguri, two arrested

Siliguri, 20th October: In a significant breakthrough, the Special Operations Group (SOG) team of Siliguri Metropolitan Police and NJP police station arrested two individuals with heroin worth crores. The arrested accused have been identified as MD Jamshed and Muhammad Rakib, both residents of Karanadighi in Uttar Dinajpur district.


As per reports, on Thursday night, acting on a tip-off received from Kolkata STF, the SOG of Siliguri Metropolitan Police and the cops of NJP police station launched a joint operation in Fulbari. During the operation, a cargo truck and a pickup van coming from Cooch Behar were halted and searched. Following this, one kilogram of heroin, cleverly hidden in secret chambers of both vehicles, was recovered. Subsequently, the police registered a case under the NDPS Act and arrested the drivers of both vehicles.

On Friday, Suvendra Kumar, ADCP of Siliguri Metropolitan Police held a press conference and revealed the details of the crime. The ADCP stated that commendable success has been achieved, aided by the STF. He added that SOG and cops of NJP police station seized two kilograms of heroin, with an estimated market value of around 15 crore rupees. Meanwhile, both the accused were produced before the court where a 10-day remand has been sought for further interrogation.
