Darjeeling, 30th June: The commemoration of Hul Diwas took place today in Darjeeling, with a special program held at Bhanu Bhawan under the auspices of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA).
“We have received instructions to organize this event in all districts. Since we have the Backward Classes Welfare (BCW) Department, we organized it here in Darjeeling, and similarly in Siliguri. This is an official program,” stated S. Ponnambalam, the District Magistrate of Darjeeling.
Paying homage to Sido Murmu and Kanhu Murmu, the leaders of the Santhal rebellion, he explained, “This Diwas is organized to honour their memory, who played a significant role in the Santhal revolution.”
Hul Diwas has been observed annually since 1855 to honor the contributions of these legends. The event serves as a tribute to their historical significance and the impact they had during their time.
