Kurseong, 03rd September: The pen-down strike called by the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) temporary staff on the second day as well.
Likewise, the United Workers’ Association observed the pen-down strike in various offices of Kurseong on the second day.
Seeking permanency of their post, the temporary employees employed in the GTA are observing complete pen-down strike today demanding the regularisation of more than 4,000 casual workers.
Today, the workers visited various offices in Kurseong and met with high level officials and appealed to them to support the demonstration.
Kurseong Sub-Divisional Committee Chairman Sandeep Bal, Secretary Sajan Ghatraj, Central Committee Vice-Chairman Wangchuk Bhutia, Sub-Divisional Vice-Chairperson Sudhama Sharma, and other executive members were present today.
The employees, who form over 90 percent of the GTA workforce, under the banner of United Employees’ Union are demonstrating in all the offices under GTA area. The protest is said to continue until their demands are met.
