Siliguri, 22nd February: On Tuesday, Trinamool Congress senior leader Goutam Deb took oath of the office of the Mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation. In addition to this, Pratul Chakraborty took oath as the Chairman of the municipal corporation. District Magistrate S Ponnambalam administered the oath of office to the councilors and mayor of the municipal corporation today.
After taking charge, Mayor Goutam Deb said that he has been working as an administrator of SMC for the past seven months. It is to recall, the Chief Minister had announced his name as the mayor of Siliguri even before the results of the municipality election were declared.
“I have officially taken charge today. We will work together and the opposition party will also get apt status,” Deb added. He appealed to the citizens of Siliguri for help and support.
The Mayor further stated that he would reach out to the common people of Siliguri and solve various problems in the city. He asserted that the new board would work for the purpose of providing land to the landless people, providing various facilities to the people of all wards, starting the work of the drinking water project and making Siliguri a ‘jam-free’ city.
