Siliguri, 26th April: On Monday, Tourism Minister Goutam Deb held an emergency meeting with the officials of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital regarding the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the region.
After the meeting, he said that the country is terribly suffering in the second phase of COVID-19. Several decisions were taken in the meeting today. There is a need for an oxygen plant in NBMCH. Proposals are being sent to build it. There are 110 beds at present. Another 96 beds will be added. Health officials have been asked to see to it that there is no shortage of medicines. The hospital has given the phone numbers of 9 doctors. They are talking to the patients in case of an emergency.
Goutam Deb also held discussions with various voluntary organizations and Covid Care Network at Mainak Tourist Lodge. He said that emphasis is being laid on setting up COVID Clinic (OPD) in the city.
Telemedicine will also be launched soon where the doctors of NBMCH will interact with the patients through video calling. In this way, it will be possible for doctors to reach a large number of patients. He added that self-help groups will be given the responsibility to make masks. Sanitation will be carried out in the localities and appropriate measures should be figured out regarding the problems faced by people staying in home isolation. He stated that at this time, it is very important to keep a close eye on the price of oxygen and other important medical services.
