Jalpaiguri, 14th October: Don, an adult rhino of the Gorumara forests, passed away. The body was found this morning in the Zero Dam area of the Gorumara forest near Bamandanga Tea Garden in Nagrakata Block.
This morning, the locals sighted the body and reported the matter to the forest department and Nagrakata police. Upon receiving the news, DFO of Gorumara Wildlife Department Nisha Goswami, Nagrakata police station OC Sanju Barman, police officials, and the forest workers reached the spot shortly after.
Nisha Goswami informed that it has been primarily assumed that the rhino might have had a natural death. However, an autopsy will be conducted to confirm it.
