Siliguri, 23rd May: In a significant breakthrough, Sikkim Police, with the assistance of Pradhan Nagar police station, have recovered gold jewelry worth lakhs of rupees stolen in a recent theft case. However, the thief remains at large and is actively being sought by the authorities.
As per reports, the theft occurred on May 19 at a residence on Tibet Road of Gangtok in Sikkim, where gold ornaments and accessories valued at Rs 14 lakhs were stolen. It is alleged that the perpetrator, a young man from Siliguri living in the victim’s house, has been absconding since the incident. After the incident, the house owner promptly filed a written complaint at the Sikkim Sadar police station.
During the investigation, Sikkim Police learned that the suspect had fled to Siliguri. They then contacted Pradhan Nagar police station, prompting an investigation led by Gautam Mallick, In-charge of the crime wing.
Significantly, the team identified the suspect and raided his residence in Middle Palash area on Wednesday. They recovered 97 grams of gold jewellery from the house, valued approximately Rs 7 lakh. However, the suspect managed to evade capture.
Meanwhile, Pradhan Nagar police are continuing their efforts to locate and apprehend the thief. The recovered gold jewelry has been handed over to the Sikkim police.
