Jaigaon, 31st October: A college student lost her life after people let her down by crushing her self-respect putting humanity to shame. The said college student, a resident of the Subhash Pally area under Jaigaon of Alipurduar district had gone to a shopping mall in Jaigaon with her sister on October 29.
Reportedly, the girl apparently picked up chocolate from the mall. But little did she know that this act of hers would compel her to commit suicide. The young girl was caught while taking chocolates.
However, along with paying the chocolate bill, the student also apologized to the people. But the employees of the shopping mall allegedly kept her hold on for two hours and people started clicking pictures of her helpless situation on the camera.
The student appealed to the people and asked them not to share her pictures on social media but the employees of the shopping mall allegedly crossed all limits of humanity and posted the pictures on social media without her consent. Ashamed and embarrassed after the pictures went viral, the student committed suicide due to mental pressure and depression. On Sunday, the police recovered the hanging body of the college student from her residence.
After the incident, on Sunday night, agitated people protested in front of the shopping mall and at the Jaigaon police station. Even this morning, the local residents gathered in front of the Jaigaon police station and demanded punishment for the culprits. In this regard, Jaigaon police station OC Prabir Dutta said that the police are investigating the matter. The body has been sent to Alipurduar District Hospital for postmortem.
