Siliguri, 12th September: The undercover team from Matigara police station has exposed a gang responsible for multiple thefts in Siliguri, where victims were made unconscious before being robbed.
In connection to this, three members of the gang have been arrested. The accused have been identified as MD Gulzar (42), Mohammad Ayshad (44), and Mohammad Sohail (44). On Wednesday, the police recovered stolen items, including 6 grams of gold and 47 grams of silver ornaments.
Reportedly, two houses in Lenin Colony under Matigara II Gram Panchayat were targeted by the gang in July and August. The miscreants made the house inmates unconscious and stole property worth lakhs of rupees. The case came to light on August 17, causing widespread fear among the area residents.
Following the incident, Matigara police began a thorough investigation. It was revealed that the gang comprised four members. One of them would scout potential targets during the day, and later at night, the group would execute the thefts by making the occupants unconscious, ensuring an easy robbery.
A major breakthrough came on August 26, when the police, acting on a tip-off, arrested MD Gulzar from the Paribahan Nagar area. During his interrogation, it was revealed that two other gang members, Mohammad Ayshad and Mohammad Sohail, were already in the custody of Islampur police for similar crimes committed in Islampur.
Subsequently, on August 31, after following proper legal procedures, Matigara police obtained a transit remand for the two accused from Islampur court and brought them to Siliguri.
After further interrogation, the stolen gold and silver ornaments were recovered on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the police are still on the hunt for the fourth member of the gang. At present the police are engaged in further investigation.
