G20 Summit: What is Global Biofuels Alliance?

News Desk: On Saturday, the G20 leaders launched the much-awaited Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA). GBA is a historic alliance adopted at the G20 Summit in India for marking a significant change in an urge for sustainability and clean energy.


“The launch of Global Biofuels Alliance marks a watershed moment in our quest towards sustainability and clean energy. I thank the member nations who have joined this Alliance,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The GBA members include 19 countries and 12 international organizations. The G20 member countries supporting the alliance include Argentina, Brazil, Canada, India, Italy, South Africa and the US. While, four G20 Invitee nations supporting GBA are Bangladesh, Singapore, Mauritius, and the UAE. Eight non-G20 countries Iceland, Kenya, Guyana, Paraguay, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Uganda, and Finland also support the GBA.


The International organizations in the alliance include the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, World Economic Forum, World LPG Organisation, International Energy Agency, International Energy Forum, International Renewable Energy Agency, and World Biogas Association.
