Fulbari, 02nd January: A youth identified as Akash Das, a resident of Laxmi Jote in Fulbari II Gram Panchayat near Siliguri, has gone missing under mysterious circumstances after an outing with friends on December 31st night. Efforts to locate him are ongoing, with the New Jalpaiguri police and disaster response team searching the Jorapani River in Fulbari since Thursday morning.
According to the family, Akash and his friends had an altercation with some individuals from Dhakaiya Basti on New Year’s Eve. Later that night, one of his friends reportedly called Akash and others to the area where another confrontation occurred. Allegedly, Akash’s friends fled the scene, leaving him behind. He has been missing since then.
The family lodged a complaint at New Jalpaiguri police station, detailing the events. During questioning, police learned that Akash sustained a leg injury and was left near the Jorapani River in Fulbari.
Akash’s father, an e-rickshaw driver, and his mother, who also works, are devastated. His mother, Anita Das, accused Akash’s friends of forcibly taking him to the scene of the fight, where his leg was broken, and abandoning him. She holds them responsible for his disappearance.
The police are actively interrogating Akash’s friends and investigating the incident. However, there has been no sign of the missing youth so far.
