Siliguri, 03rd January: For the first time, the ‘Friendship Cup 2025’ cricket tournament has been organised in Siliguri under the initiative of Aamra Sobai Surya Sen Sporting Club in association with the Kanai Lal Sen Foundation. The tournament has generated widespread enthusiasm among players and local residents.
According to the organisers, a total of eight teams are participating in the competition. Siliguri Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar was present at the inauguration ceremony. Despite being the first edition of the tournament, it has received an encouraging response from various sections of society.
Club president Tandab Mukherjee said that teams from different organisations and social backgrounds are taking part in the tournament. He added that the event has gone beyond being just a cricket tournament and has become a platform for promoting friendship, unity and social harmony. The organisers expressed hope of expanding the tournament on a larger scale in the coming years.
Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar said that such sporting initiatives play an important role in encouraging the younger generation to engage in sports. He also mentioned that plans are underway to further develop Valmiki Ground to make it more suitable and well-equipped for sporting activities in the future.
