Siliguri, 11th August: In a significant achievement, the Pradhan Nagar police station of Siliguri Metropolitan Police successfully exposed a ‘friendship club’ operating under the guise of a call center. On Thursday, a team from Pradhan Nagar police station arrested eight women who were found to be involved in running a friendship club while posing as a call center.
The police received information about fraudulent activities being carried out in the name of a ‘friendship club’ located at Milan More, under the jurisdiction of Pradhan Nagar police station. Acting swiftly on this tip-off, the Pradhan Nagar police launched an operation that resulted in the apprehension of the eight women from the said location. During the operation, law enforcement officials also seized packets of mobile SIM cards, account records, and various other crucial documents from different rooms within the building.
The arrested were produced in the Siliguri court by the police, who requested the court to grant remand as part of their ongoing investigation. Furthermore, the police have identified three individuals believed to be the masterminds behind this fraudulent friendship club and are actively seeking their whereabouts.
It is to be noted, due to the persistent efforts of the police, the prevalence of such friendship clubs had significantly decreased in the Siliguri area. However, there seems to be a resurgence of these activities, prompting law enforcement to remain vigilant and take necessary actions to curb their operations.
