Siliguri, 30th December: BJP MLA of Dabgram-Fulbari, Sikha Chatterjee, has raised concerns over repeated road accidents on Siliguri’s Eastern Bypass, holding the state police and traffic authorities responsible.
She alleged that illegal pickup van and maxi cab stands at Ashighar More are causing frequent accidents. Recently, MLA Chatterjee visited the family of Pankaj Sarkar, who died in one such accident, and assured them of her support.
Speaking on the matter, Shikha Chatterjee said that while the police are busy with other tasks, they are failing to perform their primary duties. The unauthorized stands at Ashighar More have narrowed the road, increasing the risk of accidents. Additionally, footpaths along the Eastern Bypass have been occupied by shops, yet authorities have taken no action.
She added that despite multiple complaints to the police and traffic department, no solution has been provided so far.
