Siliguri, 17th January: In a joint operation by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Siliguri Metropolitan Police and NJP Police Station, four individuals, including a woman, were arrested with brown sugar worth ₹15 lakhs. The arrested accused have been identified as Sumitra Barman, Subhash Barman, Anwar Sheikh, and Shayam Sheikh. Sumitra and Subhash are residents of Cooch Behar, while Anwar and Shayam hail from Malda.

The authorities received a tip-off about the plan, prompting a swift response from the SOG and NJP Police. On Thursday evening, a coordinated raid was carried out near Podajhar in Kawakhali, leading to the arrest of the four suspects in the act.
