Siliguri, 06thMay: In a major crackdown on drug smuggling, the undercover cops of Pradhan Nagar Police Station foiled an attempt to use Siliguri as a corridor for smuggling cannabis. Acting on a tip-off, the police launched a campaign on Monday night and apprehended four individuals disguised as passengers from the Siliguri Junction bus stand.
During the search operation, cannabis worth lakhs of rupees was recovered from the accused, who have been identified as Deepchand Barman, Azizul Rahman, Duryodhan Namdas, and Sanjay Das. According to police sources, the four youths, residents of Sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar, had arrived at the bus stand with the intention of distributing the contraband to various locations.
However, based on secret information, undercover officers intercepted and searched them, resulting in the seizure of 40 kilograms of cannabis concealed in large packets. Following the recovery, all four were taken into custody.
The accused were presented in the Siliguri court on Tuesday. Police have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident to uncover further links in the smuggling network.
