Siliguri, 25th July: The Bagdogra police have apprehended four individuals in connection with the assault of a woman during the Salishi Sabha in Bagdogra. The arrested suspects have been identified as Pradeep Sarkar, Gauri Sarkar, Lalita Balmiki, and Shiva Balmiki.
According to reports, the incident occurred on July 19 when a dispute arose between two women in the Bhujiapani area. A third woman intervened to mediate and resolve the issue between the two parties. However, on the following day, the same woman who mediated was allegedly disrobed and assaulted during the said meeting. The victim claimed that she was physically assaulted, but in her written complaint filed at the police station, there was no mention of disrobing. In response to the incident, a complaint was filed from the opposite party as well. Based on the complaints from both parties, the Bagdogra police took action and arrested the four individuals involved.
On Tuesday, members of the Dooars Tarai Adivasi Mahila Welfare Society met with the victim. Binita Kujur (Tete), the founder of the organization, strongly condemned the incident and demanded strict action against the accused responsible for the assault.
