Siliguri, 21st December: Prahlad Chandra Banik, former president of Bidhan Market Vyavasayee Samiti, passed away last night at a private nursing home in Siliguri.
The association members paid their last respect after his body arrived at the office today. On the other hand, Bidhan Market was closed until 12 noon today as per the decision of the association.
It is to be noted that Prahlad Chandra Banik was the President of Bidhan Market Vyavasayee Samiti in 1987. He played a major role in the setting up of Bidhan Market. He also contributed to the construction of Kanchenjunga Stadium. Under his leadership, a certain amount was handed over by the association during the construction of the stadium. During that time, he demanded the main entrance to the stadium to be named Fosin Gate.
Samiti secretary mourned his death and said that Banik has provided a beautiful infrastructure to Bidhan Market. He also stated that he would always be by their side in all matters including committee meetings and market development.
