Rajganj, 24th February: Following the death of the Madhyamik candidate on Thursday, the Forest Department took 39 Madhyamik candidates from Tista Char area of Rajganj to their examination centre in the Department’s vehicle.
The move comes after the tragic incident that took place on Thursday. A Madhyamik candidate on a bike with his father was heading to his examination centre through a jungle route when they were attacked by a wild elephant. The young boy lost his life in the incident. Following the incident, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was in Siliguri at the time, instructed that arrangements should be made to escort the Madhyamik candidates living in forested areas to and from the examination centre.
Acting on the order, government buses have been arranged for Madhyamik candidates of Tista Char, adjacent to Baikunthpur forest of Rajganj starting today. However, when the bus did not arrive on time today, the candidates were taken to their centre in the Forest Department’s vehicle. 39 students were taken to the examination centre at Belakoba in three vehicles. Reportedly, candidates will be taken to the examination centre by bus from tomorrow. Along with this, monitoring, and awareness campaign will also be conducted by the Forest Department.
