Siliguri, 14th July: The Parvati Ghat Kali Puja Committee organized a one-day football tournament in Ward No. 45 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) to combat youth drug addiction and promote sports awareness. The event saw the participation of 16 teams.
The tournament’s inauguration was attended by notable figures including Gargi Chatterjee, Councilor of Ward No. 02 and Chairman of Borough No. 1, social worker Biplab Chowdhury, Margaret School teacher SK Tripathi, and Navankur Club President Prasanjit Ghosh, along with other social workers and prominent community members.
Shiv Shankar Sonkar, a member of the Parvati Ghat Kali Puja Committee, highlighted the growing issue of youth drug addiction and the decreasing interest in sports. He mentioned that the committee has been organizing this football tournament for the past four years to encourage youth to shift their focus from drugs to sports.
The winning team of the tournament will receive Rs 30,000 in cash and a trophy, while the runner-up will be awarded Rs 20,000 in cash along with a trophy.
