Siliguri, 17th August: The folk and traditional arts are being actively promoted by the state government. On Thursday, a conference for folk artists was convened led by Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb at the notable theatre of Dinbandhu Manch (Tathya Kendra) in Siliguri to improve and develop the standard of conventional folk arts in the city.
With the lighting of the lamp, the mayor launched the program. The mayor was accompanied by folk artists from Darjeeling who gathered at the event. Additionally, the musicians through their songs, showcased several initiatives taken by the state government.
In this regard, Mayor Goutam Deb highlighted that the primary objective of the state government is the development of folk arts along with artists. At present, an estimated 1.94 lakh folk performers are receiving the government’s support. The mayor further stated that the goal of the meeting was to discuss various ways to expand the pool of artists eligible for this allowance in the future.
