The sudden cloud burst-related flash flood caused by the swelling of the Teesta River claimed the lives of 14 individuals while over 100 others are still missing. Due to the unprecedented emergency, the Sikkim Education Department has declared a closure of schools in districts including Pakyog, Gangtok, Namchi, and Mangan till October 8.
According to reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the matter with Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and assured him of all possible support from the center.
