Siliguri, 24th July: Late on Sunday night, the Special Operations Group (SOG) in collaboration with the NJP police apprehended eight individuals. Among the detained were five Bangladeshi women who had illegally entered India, along with three Indian agents suspected of trafficking them. The agents taken into custody have been identified as Jhantu Roy, Foni Roy, and Sanjay Roy, residents of Siliguri’s Bakrabhita, Salugara, and Ashighar, respectively.
According to the women, they were enticed with promises of employment by the agents, who facilitated their unlawful entry into the country. Unaware of the smuggling aspect, the women followed the agents to Siliguri via Uttar Dinajpur on Sunday night.
Acting on a tip-off, the New Jalpaiguri police station authorities, part of the Siliguri Police Commissionerate, successfully arrested the Bangladeshi women and the suspected Indian agents. Today, the accused were presented before the Jalpaiguri Court to face further legal proceedings.
