Jalpaiguri, 11th January: Five persons were arrested in Jalpaiguri while allegedly attempting to traffic drugs, and around 100 grams of brown sugar was seized from their possession. The Special Operations Group (SOG) carried out the raid on Saturday near the Super Specialty Hospital of Jalpaiguri Medical College.
According to police sources, among the arrested are three women and two minors. Additional Superintendent of Police, Jalpaiguri, Saubhanik Mukhopadhyay said that two of the accused are residents of Islampur, while the remaining three are local residents.
He added that the police had been keeping the area under surveillance for a long time based on inputs about drug trafficking. Acting on a tip-off, the SOG conducted the operation.
The arrested persons were produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Sunday.
