Siliguri, 29th May: A devastating fire broke out in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC), resulting in severe damage to records belonging to numerous city businessmen.
According to the reports, on Wednesday afternoon, a sudden fire erupted in the trade license department of the SMC. Subsequently, the Municipal Corporation premises were engulfed in smoke within a short span. Initially, the employees attempted to extinguish the fire themselves. However, upon realizing the severity of the situation, the fire department was promptly notified. Three fire brigade vehicles quickly arrived at the scene, and firefighters immediately commenced efforts to extinguish the flames.
Despite facing challenges from the thick smoke, the fire fighters entered the building equipped with oxygen masks to combat the blaze and successfully doused the raging inferno. At present, the cause behind the fire remains under investigation. Meanwhile, upon learning of the incident, the mayor, deputy mayor, and other corporation employees swiftly arrived at the scene to assess the situation and provide support.
