Jalpaiguri, 28th December: Panic spread in Jalpaiguri after a massive fire broke out in a moving goods-laden truck on National Highway 31 near the Mahutpara Jora Culvert area on Sunday morning.
According to sources, local residents noticed flames coming from the truck in the early hours and immediately alerted the police and fire services. Traffic police personnel rushed to the spot to manage the situation.
Fire brigade teams later arrived and, after prolonged efforts, brought the blaze under control. The truck was severely damaged in the fire.
The truck driver and helper sustained injuries in the incident and were rescued and admitted to Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Police sources said the goods-laden truck was travelling from Bihar towards Guwahati at the time of the incident.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.
