Jalpaiguri, 02nd March: A major fire broke out early Monday morning in the No. 04 Ghumti area of Jalpaiguri town, reducing a stationery shop to ashes.
According to local sources, residents noticed thick black smoke billowing out from the closed shop and immediately informed the fire brigade. On receiving the alert, fire engines rushed to the spot and began efforts to douse the flames. The blaze was brought under control after some time.
Preliminary suspicion suggests that a short circuit may have triggered the fire. However, fire officials are examining the matter to determine the exact cause.
The shop owner stated that all items inside the store were completely destroyed in the incident and estimated the total loss to be in lakhs.
