Siliguri, 27th December: Panic ensued in the Janata Para area adjoining NJP IOC Road under Ward No. 35 after a fire broke out in a house on Friday night.
According to reports, smoke was suddenly seen coming out from inside the house, prompting residents to alert the fire department immediately. Two fire tenders reached the spot initially, and as the intensity of the fire increased, two more engines were deployed to control the blaze.
After considerable effort, the fire personnel managed to bring the fire under control. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
Local residents alleged that long-standing negligence in the maintenance of electricity connections in the area may have contributed to the incident. The fire department and police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
