Fire at shoe store in Jalpaiguri sparks panic

Jalpaiguri, 16th June: Panic gripped Merchant Road in Jalpaiguri on Sunday night after a fire broke out at a local shoe shop. Thick smoke was suddenly seen emerging from the shop, prompting immediate calls to the fire department.


Two fire engines from the Jalpaiguri fire station were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters worked diligently to control the blaze, entering the smoke-filled premises with oxygen cylinders due to the intensity of the fire.

Jalpaiguri Municipality Vice Chairman Saikat Chatterjee and Chairman in Council Sandeep Mahato rushed to the spot after receiving the news. They inspected the site and directed officials to take necessary safety measures.


After sustained efforts, firefighters successfully brought the flames under control. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have originated from a short circuit. However, the full extent of the damage is yet to be assessed.
