Farmers in distress as flash flood in Teesta River destroys several acres of cropland in Gajoldoba

Gajoldoba, 10th October: The farmers of the Nathua Char area adjacent to Gajoldoba were left in a state of distress following the flash flood in Teesta River. Several acres of cropland along the banks of river Teesta in Gajoldoba have been destroyed resulting in losses of lakhs of rupees.


According to reports, last Tuesday night, the disastrous flash flood in the Teesta River followed by the debris that was washed down into the plain lands, destroyed crops in several bighas of lands in Nathua Char near Gajoldoba.

In this regard, the farmers of Nathua Char stated that they have taken loans from banks for farming and cultivated several crops including paddy, bottle gourd, bitter gourd, and green chilies. However, everything got destroyed prior to the crop being harvested. Consequently, the farmers are now worried regarding the re-payment of the bank loans.
