Fake NIA gang case: Fourth accused arrested in Siliguri, fake NIA jacket and suspicious BSF ID seized

Siliguri, 04th December: The Special Operations Group (SOG) and Detective Department (DD) of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police arrested one more accused in the fake NIA gang extortion case. The arrested accused has been identified as Mithilesh Kumar Singh, a resident of Shiv Mandir.


Earlier, the case came to light on 22nd November after Chathat resident Rahul Ghosh lodged a written complaint at the Medical Outpost, alleging that a group of individuals had been posing as NIA officers and extorting money by threatening arrest.

Following the complaint, the investigation was handed over to the Detective Department. Acting swiftly, a joint team of DD and SOG arrested three accused, Ehsan Ahmed, Rehan Babar and Manik Roy, on the same night. They were produced before the Siliguri court on 23rd November and taken on remand.


During interrogation, the name of the fourth accused, Mithilesh Kumar Singh, surfaced. Police launched a search operation but he remained absconding. Acting on a tip-off received late Wednesday night, the SOG and DD conducted a raid at his residence in Shiv Mandir and arrested him.

During the arrest, a jacket bearing the NIA logo was recovered from his possession. Police also seized a suspicious BSF identity card.

According to DD sources, the accused gave several contradictory statements during interrogation. He was produced before the Siliguri court on Thursday and the police sought remand for further questioning.

Investigators believe the fake NIA gang could have a wider network and more arrests are likely in the coming days.
