Siliguri, 29th August: In a significant breakthrough, the cops of Matigara Police Station of Siliguri Metropolitan Police busted an Assam-Delhi-based gang that sold fake gold items by presenting them as genuine gold. Following this, six members of the gang, identified as, Tshering Bhutia (65), Sanjay Das (40), Amarchand Maheshwari (57), Murlidhar (40), Jetaram Kumawat (53) and Darshan Sarki (32), were arrested by the police from Siliguri’s City Centre area on Monday night. Among the arrested, Tshering and Sanjay are residents of Siliguri, Darshan hails from Jaigaon, Muralidhar is from Delhi, while Amarchand and Jetaram are residents of Assam.
According to reports, the members of the gang arrived in Siliguri a few days back. Following this, the gang reached another gang member, Tshering Bhutia’s residence located in Siliguri’s Uttorayon, and prepared the entire plan of fraud.
However, prior to the gang executing their plan, police launched an operation, based on a tip-off, and arrested all the members of the gang. Following the arrest, police recovered fake gold jewelry and fake gold biscuits amounting to 9 kg 300 grams from their possession. In addition, police also seized two four-wheelers. On Tuesday, the police produced all the accused before the Siliguri Court after registering a case of fraud. Currently, the matter is under further investigation.
