Fake Call Center busted in Siliguri, 10 arrested for fraudulent activities

Siliguri, 14th December: In a joint operation, the Special Operations Group (SOG), Panitanki Police, Siliguri Police, and the Cyber Team dismantled a fake call center involved in defrauding individuals under the pretense of providing anti-virus and software services.


The operation led to the arrest of ten individuals, identified as Mohammad Arshad, Mohammad Aman Raja, Firoz Khan, Abdul Tauhit, Rohit Gupta, Rajesh Shaw, Mohammad Umar, Soumo Bikas Kundu, Mehta Ahmed Ansari, and Abhijit Das, all reportedly residents of Kolkata.

As per details received, the fake call center, operating for a significant period, was set up in a rented house on the third floor of a building in Sisir Bhaduri Sarani, Khudiram Pally, under Ward No. 11 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). The accused allegedly duped people both in foreign countries and other Indian states by falsely offering anti-virus and software services.


Acting on a tip-off, the joint police teams raided the premises late Friday night. The operation resulted in the recovery of numerous items, including six laptops, several mobile phones, and other incriminating documents. During preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted to running similar fraudulent call centers at other locations.

The arrested individuals were presented before the Siliguri court on Saturday. Meanwhile, further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the mastermind behind the operation.
