Siliguri, 31st May: The Detective Department (DD) of Siliguri Police has busted a fake Aadhaar card centre and arrested two individuals involved in the racket. The accused have been identified as Sushil Roy of Tikiapara and Indra Narayan Choudhary of Fuleswari, the alleged mastermind behind the scam.
According to reports, the DD team received a tip-off that Aadhaar cards were being illegally issued to people without valid documents. During the investigation, Sushil Roy was found to be searching for such individuals and introducing them to Indra Narayan Choudhary, allegedly in exchange for ₹1,000 per person.
Indra Narayan Choudhary is said to have charged large sums from people to generate fake Aadhaar cards. A detailed probe led to the seizure of numerous Aadhaar cards and photographs from his laptop and mobile device.
The operation culminated on Friday night with the arrest of Sushil Roy, followed by Choudhary’s arrest based on information obtained during interrogation. Both were produced before the Siliguri court on Saturday, and a seven-day remand has been sought.
DD suspects that more individuals may be involved in the fake Aadhaar card racket. An investigation is currently underway to uncover the full extent of the scam.
