Siliguri, 05th April: In a recent development, an accountant and his accomplice have been arrested for defrauding a renowned clothing store worth lakhs of rupees in Siliguri. The arrested accused has been identified as Piyush Jindal (30), the accountant, and his accomplice Bikki Chaudhary (28). Piyush is stated to be a resident of Dr. B.C. Colony under Bhakti Nagar police station and Bikki is a resident of Maharaja Colony under Ward No. 04.
As per information received from police sources, the owner of the store had lodged a written complaint on March 28 at Khalpara Outpost stating a scam worth lakhs of rupees. The owner accused the accountant of the store of fraud of about Rs 78 lakh. Sources revealed that Piyush Jindal has been working as an accountant in the clothing store for about four-five years and the responsibility was earlier handled by his father.
Reportedly, about six months ago, the store owner had undergone a bypass surgery due to his deteriorating health. During this, Piyush handled the total responsibility of the store and had allegedly embezzled Rs 78 lakh from the owner’s account and transferred the money to the accounts of his associate Bikki Chaudhary and his relatives.
Later, as the store’s account was audited by CA in the month of March, the entire fraud came to light. Upon contacting the bank, it was discovered that Piyush had changed the registered mobile number and e-mail of the bank account. Subsequently, the store owner approached the police.
Based on the complaint, the police initiated an investigation and arrested the accused accountant Piyush Jindal from Berhampore on Thursday and brought him to Siliguri on this day. Following a preliminary inquiry, the police also arrested the accountant’s associate Bikki Chaudhary. On Friday, both the accused have been produced before the Siliguri court, where the judge ordered for 5-day police remand. At present, the police are engaged in further investigation.
