Naxalbari, 05th May: The elephant cub that was recovered from the banks of Mechi river adjacent to Kalabari in Naxalbari passed away today. On Thursday, the cub was spotted roaming in the Mechi river area, and the local people immediately informed the Forest Department.
Upon receiving the news, the forest department personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the elephant cub. However, the cub died today in the Kalabari beat office. Sources from the Forest Department have confirmed that the 15-20 day old elephant cub was receiving treatment after being rescued. The postmortem report has revealed that the cub died due to an infection with a stomach ulcer.
