Jalpaiguri, 22nd July: The carcass of an adult elephant was recovered from the Sholodanga area of Mantadari gram panchayat.
According to local sources, the elephant was spotted wandering in different areas of Mantadari gram panchayat on Wednesday night. This raises questions concerning the sudden death of the elephant. Forest workers are investigating whether the animal died due to electrocution.
Harikrishnan, an official of the Baikunthapur Forest Department, said that initially it is being assumed that the elephant’s death was due to a natural cause. “But, we will conduct an autopsy to find out the real reason for its death death,” Harikrishnan added.
