Bagdogra, 10th March: An elephant calf succumbed to trypanosoma after fighting for 22 days while undergoing treatment in the Bagdogra Forest.
Reportedly, the 6-year-old female elephant calf was found wandering with an infection in its legs. Upon examination, blood tests confirmed the presence of trypanosoma. The calf initially received medical treatment at the Bagdogra Bengdubi Army Camp.
Later, a special training team from Thailand took over its care. Despite continuous treatment efforts, the elephant eventually passed away. The incident has cast a shadow of grief among forest personnel.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Debesh Pandey confirmed that the elephant died of trypanosoma. He added that both voluntary organizations and forest workers had put in great efforts to save the calf.
