Elephant attack on Terai Branch Indian Tea Association sparks panic in Bagdogra

Bagdogra, 20th May: On Sunday night, a wild elephant attacked the Terai Branch of the Indian Tea Association in Bagdogra caused significant disruption within the association’s quarters. Additionally, the elephant targeted the Bangdubi Army Cantonment, further escalating the situation. The incident has left the residents alarmed and distressed.


Reports indicate that the elephant’s rampage occurred late at night, causing substantial damage of property and stored food. Despite the immediate notification to the forest department, their personnel allegedly did not arrive on time at the scene. The affected community is urging prompt action from the forest department to prevent such occurrences in the future and to ensure the safety of the residents and their properties.

In this regard, the Secretary of the Terai Branch Indian Tea Association, Rana Dey, stated that apart from attacking two houses, the elephant also ate food, while demanding immediate compensation.


Meanwhile, Bagdogra Range In-charge, Payal Roy stated that after receiving the information, forest workers have reached the spot. She added that compensation would be provided for the damage.
