Elephant attack claims life of elderly man in Naxalbari

Naxalbari, 20th June: In a heart-wrenching incident, an elderly man named Krishna Bahadur Chhetri (76) lost his life in an elephant attack near the Santoshi temple situated at Uttar Dayaram Jote in Naxalbari. The unfortunate incident occurred early this morning when Chhetri went out for his routine morning walk. Tragically, he was confronted by an aggressive elephant, resulting in his immediate demise.


The lifeless body of the elderly man was found in a pineapple field by his relatives this morning. Locals informed the police about the incident. Acting promptly, local authorities, including the Naxalbari police and forest personnel from the Tukriajhar forest department, swiftly arrived at the scene. They recovered the body and took it to the Naxalbari Rural Hospital. Later, the body was transferred to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for postmortem examination.
