Elephant attack claims life in Dalsingpara, victim’s family receives Rs 5 Lakh compensation

Kalchini, 27th May: Tragedy struck Gopal Bahadur Basti in Dalsingpara as one person lost his life in a devastating elephant attack. The victim, Shyam Sarki, a resident of the area, sustained severe injuries during the wild elephant encounter on May 17. Initially, Sarki was rushed to Latabari Hospital for medical treatment and subsequently transferred to Alipurduar District Hospital. However, despite efforts to save him, he tragically passed away during treatment on the morning of May 18.


Following the incident, the Forest Department promptly informed the bereaved family about the compensation entitlement. Today, in a gesture of support, Forest Department officials, including Hamiltonganj Range Officer Ankan Nandi, Kalchini Forest Chief Roshan Oraon, and Dalsinghpara Pradhan Sujata Gole, visited the deceased’s home. During the visit, they presented a cheque worth Rs 5 lakh to the grieving relatives as a form of financial assistance.
