Siliguri, 25th November: In Pramod Nagar area of Siliguri’s Ward No. 47, a multi-storey building has been constructed around an electric pole, sparking questions about the role of the Municipal administration.
Construction of the building has been ongoing for about a year, yet neither the ward councillor nor municipal officials reportedly noticed the issue.
Complaints allege that the pole has been enclosed so closely within the building that it now appears as part of the structure itself. While the municipal corporation continues regular drives against illegal construction across the city, questions are being raised about how this building in Pramod Nagar went unnoticed and whether any influence from powerful individuals was involved.
Ward councillor Amar Ananda Das stated that he was unaware of the matter but will investigate immediately. He added that if the construction is indeed illegal, appropriate action will be taken against the owner. Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar noted that no written complaint has been received so far, but legal action will follow if a complaint is lodged.
Meanwhile, opposition leader Amit Jain criticized the oversight, saying it is shocking that such illegal construction could take place in a councillor’s own ward without their knowledge.
He urged immediate investigation rather than waiting for formal complaints, highlighting that the electric pole has effectively been enclosed within the building.
