Jalpaiguri, 18th April: On Friday, the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in the state is scheduled to be held in the Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and the Cooch Behar constituencies. Significantly, the election workers have begun arriving at the voting centers since Thursday morning to take charge of the responsibilities.
According to reports, two Distribution/Dispersion Center and Receipt Centers (DCRCs) have been established in Jalpaiguri district, situated at Jalpaiguri Engineering College and Malbazar College. The polling officials have begun their preparations, assembling necessary equipment like the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) boxes and are readying to depart for the polling stations.
This year, the Jalpaiguri district comprises a total of 18,85,963 voters, including 9,85,811 male voters and 9,27,339 female voters. The voting process will be conducted at 1,904 booths located in the Jalpaiguri district, out of which 149 booths will be exclusively managed by female workers.
The voting process is scheduled to start from 7 AM and continue until 6 PM at every booth, with the central forces deployed and CCTV surveillance. It is to be noted that the administration is vigilant to ensure uninterrupted and peaceful voting in the areas.
