Elderly woman’s charred body recovered from a residence in Siliguri

Siliguri, 04th January: Sensation prevailed after the burnt body of an elderly woman was found inside a house in Arabinda Pally under Ward No. 22 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). The deceased woman has been identified as Lakshmi Rani Chakraborty (84).


According to Bapan Chakraborty, son of the deceased woman, the elderly was a vegetarian and she cooked food for herself in a stove. As stated, the woman suffered neuro issues and took sleeping pills for slumber.

He added that he woke up in the middle of the night hearing the neighbour’s screams and spotted that his mother’s house was engulfed in fire. Furthermore, he stated that they anticipated the inferno might have been ignited by the stove.


Upon receiving the news, the fire department personnel and Siliguri police arrived at the spot, recovered the body, and transported it to Siliguri District Hospital.
