Elderly woman arrested in Siliguri for possession and sale of brown sugar

Siliguri, 21st June: Bhaktinagar police apprehended a senior citizen identified as Geeta Sherpa (61) on charges of drug trafficking. The accused, a resident of Salugara in Siliguri, allegedly operated a shop in the area, which served as a front for selling drugs.


Sources stated that Geeta had been involved in the illicit sale of brown sugar, discreetly packaging the drug into small packets. Acting on intelligence, undercover officers from the Bhaktinagar police station plotted an operation and posed as customers at the shop.

During the operation, the elderly woman was caught red-handed, leading to her immediate arrest. Subsequently, the police seized 58 grams of brown sugar from her possession. The police will present the accused before the Jalpaiguri Court tomorrow, registering a case against her under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
