Siliguri, 23rd May: In a distressing incident, a 65-year-old mentally challenged woman was allegedly raped in an area under the jurisdiction of the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police station. Significantly, the locals caught the accused and handed him over to the police. The accused has been identified as Akbar Ali.
As per reports, on Wednesday, the elderly woman was alone at her home. Taking advantage of the situation, Akbar Ali entered the house and allegedly committed the heinous act. In the meantime, the woman’s daughter entered the house and raised alarms. Responding to the distress call, the locals rushed and caught the individual red-handed. Later, the accused was handed over to NJP police.
Meanwhile, a written complaint has also been filed at the police station during the night. The officials of the NJP police station are engaged in a detailed investigation of the entire incident. The incident had caused a tense atmosphere in the entire area.
